Welcome to Dorking Bandstand
How did this start?
In March 2021, a local musician, had three ideas: how to pay tribute to the work of the NHS, key workers and volunteers during the pandemic; how to commemorate those who had suffered and lost their lives; and how to create a practical outside performance space in Dorking.
The thoughts came together in the proposal to create a multi functional, flexible performance venue in the heart of the town.
Informal discussions with local friends, musicians and performers suggested the proposal would be strongly supported. Similarly, early informal discussions with MVDC echoed this support. The project started.
Vision
“Design, build and maintain a permanent outdoor music and performance venue in Meadowbank Park, Dorking, for the benefit of the local community, in tribute to the work of the NHS, key workers and volunteers and as a Memorial to the lives lost during the Covid-19 Pandemic.”

NHS workers honoured with open-air performance space in Surrey
We need to honour and remember all those who have helped us through the Pandemic and remember those we have lost. Dorking also needs an open air performing venue in the centre of the town. What better than a new bandstand to replace the one we lost in the early 1960s? The idea is already being very strongly supported by the local council and a wide variety of performing groups.
