Dear All,

A rather long overdue update. Much has been happening! We have:
    –    met several times as trustees to progress the project
    –    continued to consult about bandstand design details and what would make it as useable as possible to a wide range of groups
    –    gone live with our website – www.dorkingbandstand.com (Do visit for details)
    –    opened a facebook page at www.facebook.com/dorkingbandstand
    –    commissioned a Flood Risk Assessment study as required by planning
    –    held initial consultative meetings with the MVDC planning officers
    –    consulted local Meadowbank residents about our proposals and invited comments
    –    had a number of (virtual) meetings with potential major funders

On Saturday 28 August, supported by Martineau Brass, we had a stall at the Family Fun Day in Meadowbank. We were able  to explain our project to a wide range of people and collected over 120 signatures supporting the venture.

Next Steps
Our key next step is to determine from the Flood Risk Assessment a final location proposal, and submit the planning application to MVDC. This will initiate an open consultation with the wider community, which will inform decisions the Council will make regarding restrictions to performance times etc.

How can you help
One of the most gratifying elements of the project has been the widespread enthusiasm for the idea and the offers of support. The trustees are developing the necessary fund raising campaign which will be launched in the Autumn. In the meantime, we have two specific needs:
    –    someone to help with managing day to day communications – particularly now we have  a website and a facebook profile;
    –    a person who would be happy to act as treasurer – when the money starts rolling in….!

Finally, as you will realise, we are starting to incur costs. At present these are being covered by loans and gifts from the trustees to the organisation. However, if anyone else felt able to make a loan – or even a donation at this stage, please do get in touch to discuss what might be possible.
